Background

Dr Ling’s path to orthopaedic surgery began long before medical school. As a life-long sports player, he competed nationally and internationally in badminton, and it was through sport that he first encountered the impact of shoulder and musculoskeletal injuries first-hand. A minor shoulder sprain in his second-last season deepened his curiosity about the field.
“I liked that orthopaedics was practical and hands-on. Most of what we do isn’t life-threatening – it’s about making people’s lives better. Your patient comes in miserable and after treatment, their quality of life is dramatically improved. That’s enormously satisfying.”

Care philosophy

Dr Ling’s approach is built on trust, honesty, and shared decision-making. He firmly believes that surgery should always be the patient’s choice, and only considered when the potential benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
“I want patients to walk out of that first consult reassured there’s a solution. For 90% of the problems I see, I know I can make them better somehow.  It’s incredibly satisfying  when they come back for their post-op appointment with a smile, because they’re back doing the things they’d given up on.”
